HubSpot actually sells a product that helps small- to medium-sized businesses measure website analytics and drive conversions, but they also have a whole host of free educational content. Start by subscribing to their blog – they’re big fans of giving short lists of tips and how-to’s for some of your simpler marketing strategies. Some of our recent favorites have been “The 9 Must-Have Components of Compelling Email Copy” and “A Marketer’s Guide to Optimizing Images for Google Search.”
If you’re a PRO Member at Marketing Profs then you’re privy to special online seminars, webcasts and guides, but don’t bother – the free content is just as good. We subscribe to their blog’s emails for daily doses of marketing insights. You can also check out their marketing library, which is neatly organized by topics such as “Brand Management,” “Market Research,” “Social Media” and more.
SEO must be part of your marketing planning, and there’s no better place to look then SEOmoz. Start with their Beginner’s Guide to SEO – a 10-step tutorial that covers the fundamental strategies that make websites search engine friendly. They also have a ton of other great resources like a history of Google’s algorithm changes, answers to the most common questions on SEO best practices and more. Also, if you have any questions about SEO-related terms and definitions, this is the place to go.
You might know KISSmetrics for their awesome infographics, but they also publish digital marketing guides on some of the more niche marketing tools like Tumblr, Quora and LinkedIn Advertising, as well as general overviews of SEM (search engine marketing, i.e. pay-per-click advertising) and how to build an engaged fan base.
Run by marketing expert Ilise Benun, Marketing Mentor focuses more specifically on how independent creatives should be marketing themselves. Ilise keeps an archive of quick tips that we find especially helpful on topics ranging from targeting your dream market to how to increase your revenue by 50%. Now who wouldn’t want that?
